The Butterfly House Bed and Breakfast offer individuals, couples, and families a unique lodging experience that merges the historical charm of an 1840s-era home with the modern conveniences and amenities even the most discriminating traveler will appreciate. A stay at The Butterfly House begins with a choice of three inviting suites that provide a tasteful balance of period décor and comfortable bedding and seating.
A well-outfitted information center provides guests with a wide variety of entertainment, dining, and shopping options. The 24-hr. beverage and snack bar make sure afternoon or evening cravings are quickly managed. Guests can choose between a number of breakfast staples such as freshly baked breads, bagels, juices, yogurt, and fruit while waiting for their home-cooked entrée in the dining room.
Three relaxing porches await guests seeking the repose of some fresh air, a porch swing, or a comfy settee. Within walking distance of Madison’s historic downtown, The Butterfly House ensures guests can enjoy the many festivals, events, shopping, and dining that make Madison a favorite and frequent destination.
Choose a Suite
Guests of the Butterfly House are encouraged to make themselves at home in either the magnolia master suite, the wisteria suite, or the sunflower suite. Both the comforts and amenities of the Butterfly House and the community of Madison provide ample opportunities for guests to relax, refresh, restore and revitalize.
The Butterfly House’s three suites are furnished with either king-size or queen-size beds. Each suite has a private bath, extra blankets, pillows, towels, and toiletries. All of the rooms combine the comfort of a modern suite with the beauty of period décor. Three large porches provide opportunities for restful reflection, and a lovely garden area invites guests to wander among a variety of fragrant flowers, shrubs, and perennials.
Breakfast at The Butterfly House
During their stay, guests can expect to enjoy several breakfast staples such as freshly baked bread, bagels, juices, fresh fruit, and yogurt. A full home-cooked breakfast is served every morning in the dining room and includes your choice of coffee, tea, juice, water, or hot chocolate. Guests who wish for a lighter breakfast can choose a fresh fruit smoothie, muffin, or cereal.
The Snack Bar
Don’t worry about that late afternoon or bedtime craving. The Butterfly House ensures guests can keep those hunger pains at bay with 24 hr. beverage and snack options. A daily assortment of bread, baked goods, cookies, fruit, snacks, and candy can be found in the dining room for self-service.

The Butterfly House takes pleasure in making sure your visit to Madison is everything you hoped for. Be sure to check with your hosts if you have a particular need or request. We will be happy to help you secure the special floral arrangement, box of chocolates, massage, carriage ride, lingerie, birthday cake, or gift you need to make your stay even more memorable. Please note that some services may take up to 24 hrs. advance notice. The Butterfly House reserves the right to ensure all concierge requests are family-friendly.

Madison offers a comprehensive visitor center, and guests are encouraged to check for a full schedule of upcoming events and festivals several weeks prior to their visit. During peak seasons, The Butterfly House may implement shifts in standard policies. Please check with your hosts for specific availability and rates. A two-night minimum stay is standard; however, single-night stays may be available from time to time. Accommodations for children over the age of 10 can be facilitated; please check for availability at the time of booking.

Meet your hosts, Paul & Teresa Walters
Paul & Teresa opened The Butterfly House Bed and Breakfast with one goal in mind; to provide a private, peaceful, and comfortable environment where individuals, couples, and families could relax, refresh, restore, and revitalize their relational bonds.
As a couple, Paul and & Teresa merge their individual and collective areas of expertise to provide guests a unique opportunity for relaxation, and restorative connection.
With over 40 years of property management, industrial, and facilities maintenance experience, Paul oversees the day-to-day operations of The Butterfly House and makes sure each guest leaves excited about a return visit. He is also a pretty amazing chef and often brings his talents to the kitchen. His sausage gravy is not to be missed.
As a natural relational health practitioner and relationship specialist, Teresa’s deep love for all things relational is highlighted in her desire to help every guest feel safe, connected, appreciated, and respected. Her love of gardening, pets, and antiques is evidenced throughout the house and she will readily admit that the role of HomeMaker will always be at the heart of everything she does.
Teresa maintains her private practice office on-site and often hosts relational retreats, encounters, and sabbaticals at The Butterfly House. You can learn more about Teresa’s professional credentials and experience HERE.

The magnolia tree and its beautiful creamy blossoms have symbolized endurance, long life, and everlasting connections to generations of people. At The Butterfly House, the magnolia seemed the perfect symbol for relational connection and lasting love.
True to its name, this master suite provides enough space to comfortably accommodate up to four people. While designed as a cozy couple abode, this magnificent room could be the perfect fit for a sister’s weekend, out-of-town guests, etc. Book the Magnolia Suite for a relaxing couples weekend getaway or as part of the Exclusive Marriage Encounter or Marriage Retreat experience.

This spacious room takes its name from the wisteria flower whose message is one of new beginnings. The suite offers direct access to the upstairs veranda, a large private bath, and a spacious closet. It is equipped with a high-speed internet connection and a comfortable sitting area. The suite can be reserved for a traditional bed and breakfast experience or as part of the Exclusive Marriage Encounter or Marriage Retreat package.

This lovely room takes its name from the enduring sunflower that admonishes us to stand tall, follow our dreams, and focus on what’s positive in our life. The suite provides guests with direct access to the veranda, a full bath with a tub, a queen-size bed, and a setting area. Its secluded location makes it the perfect space for a private weekend mini-moon.

For those who wish for a lighter selection, choose from a variety of cereals, yogurts, whole grain muffins, or designer smoothies.

You never know what special treat will show up in the kitchen. Sometimes it might be tasty apple popovers, freshly baked bread or yummy chocolate zucchini cake. Sometimes it might be smores by the outdoor firepit. But whatever the treat, you can be sure it was made with love and delivered to make your stay even more memorable.

Each guest room offers a unique sleeping option. Choose between a luxurious adjustable king-size bed, two queen beds, or a single queen bed.
Each suite is equipped with light and sound dampening curtains, luxury towels, extra blankets, and comfortable pillows.
Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate, & Water Station
An assortment of beverages is available 24 hrs. a day at the first-floor coffee bar. Choose between coffee, tea, water, and hot chocolate.
Breakfast at The Butterfly House
Guests enjoy a variety of breakfast options. Daily entrees complement the 24 hr. buffet stocked with bagels, fresh bread, muffins, fresh fruit, and pastries. Choose from various cereals, yogurts, and fruit smoothies for guests wishing lighter fair.

Off-street parking is provided at the rear of the guest house.
Office Work Space
The Butterfly House Bed and Breakfast makes a fully equipped workstation complete with computer/internet access, printer/scanner, note pads, pens, and envelopes. Stamps are available on request.
Private Verandas and Porches
Plan to spend some time on one of our private verandas or porches. Relax in the front porch swing or enjoy the garden from the second-floor veranda.

Early or late check-in times may be available. Requests for custom check-in or check-out times should be made at the time of booking.
Room Rates & Taxes
A state sales tax of 7% a county innkeeper’s tax of 5% and a 1% processing fee will be added to all room rates listed.
Standard room rates will be adjusted during special events and festivals.
Accepted Payment Methods
Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, Debit Cards, Cash, and Check are all accepted methods for payment.
Please note – A room reservation is not complete until the deposit amount has cleared. Reservations made by check will be confirmed upon receipt.
Reservation Deposit
A deposit is required to reserve your room. A 25% deposit will be collected by credit card at the time of booking.
The balance of the room rental will be charged two days prior to check-in.
Cancellation Policy
Cancelations require advance notice of at least 14 days. Deposits, less a $50 rebooking fee, will be refunded for cancellations received at least 14 days before the scheduled arrival date.
Cancellations received less than 14 days in advance will forfeit the deposit amount.
Cancelations received less than seven days prior to the arrival date will be subject to a late cancelation fee the equivalent of the agreed-upon fee for the entire reservation
Early departures will be considered a late cancelation and charged accordingly.
Guests are encouraged to purchase cancelation protection from an agency of their choice to offset the expense of emergency cancelations due to illness, pre-existing conditions, accident, injury, work-related demands, or traumatic loss/death/berivement.
Children
Children over the age of ten are welcome to stay in their parent’s room. An extra guest charge of $30 per night, per guest, will be added to the existing room rate
Both the Master Magnolia Suite and the Wisteria Suite can accommodate up to a 4 person occupancy. The Sunflower suite is limited to 2 guests.
Pet Policy
We love pets. The Butterfly House is home to two miniature Schnauzers and a tiny Yorkie. For this reason, we ask all guests to find alternate arrangements for their fur babies while they are guests of the Butterfly House. If you need help finding suitable local accommodations for your pets, we will do our best to help you make those arrangements at a nearby facility.
Smoking and Vaping Policy
Smoking or vaping is not allowed inside of the home or on porches. Guests may smoke in the side yard or garden.
Guests are asked to be sensitive to the needs and well-being of others and avoid situations where smoking or vaping would interfere with another guest’s enjoyment of the facilities.

- A 2-night minimum stay is standard.
- Reservations are date specific.
- Rates are for one or two-person per room, per night.
- The rate for additional guests is $30 per person, per night.
- Standard rates may not apply during times of high demand.
- Requests for single-night stays or last-minute reservations will be considered on an individual basis.
